Jeremy Clarkson has claimed police threatened to report him for ‘racist behaviour’ after he made a 999 call when two men showed up at his home asking for a selfie.
The ex-Top Gear host said he phoned to report the incident as he was ‘suspicious of the men’s motives’ because there had been burglaries in the area recently.
He claims in his Sunday Times column that he landed himself in hot water when he referred to the men as ‘travellers’.

He wrote: “There was something about them I didn’t like the look of. And there have been a lot of burglaries in the area recently.
“And I’d just taken delivery of two puppies. And there had been that drone scouting the site just a few hours earlier.
Clarkson claims he asked the men to leave, and called 101, but later dialled 999 and a woman answered the phone.

He continued: “She seemed to think I was reporting someone for wanting a selfie.
“But she did at least ask me to describe them, so I said they were travellers.
“There was then a pause, after which she said that if I continued in this vein, she’d be forced to open a new line of inquiry into racist behaviour.
“That was scary, and tricky too, because how do you describe someone without bringing colour and religion and race into it?”
The broadcaster explained that the two men introduced themselves using the same term, but the officer receiving the call ‘couldn’t get her head around this either, so the call ended’.
After allegedly hearing nothing back from the police, he claims to have turned to Amazon, who he works with on his show Clarkson’s Farm and says their security team sent someone out to patrol the farm overnight.
