Harrowing Moment Kate Garraway’s Husband Woke From Coma To Be Shown In Documentary

The harrowing moment Kate Garraway’s husband, Derek Draper, woke from his coma will be shown in an upcoming documentary.

The 53-year-old was placed on a ventilator last March after contracting coronavirus.

He beat it but ended up suffering a number of other health issues such as kidney and liver failure and remains in hospital a year later.

Opening up in the trailer, Kate says: “Derek is the sickest person the team of doctors have treated that’s lived.

“Is he going to be able to come back?

“Or will he be alive but no longer the person he was?

“You shouldn’t have to think like that.”

The Good Morning Britain presenter recently sat down with The Times to discuss his recovery and the ongoing struggles he faces.

She said: “I feel like he is in an ocean of unconsciousness and sometimes he comes up to the surface.

“In the run-up to Christmas, there were moments of consciousness where I felt like we were really communicating.

“But then the focus of the concentration disappears, and he’s gone.”

Kate Garraway: Finding Derek will air on Tuesday, March 23 at 9 pm on ITV.
