Kerry Katona is facing a backlash after posting an ‘insensitive’ April Fools’ Day joke on social media.

The mum-of-five took to Instagram and reportedly posted a photo of a baby scan, alongside the caption: “Love you, Ryan Mahoney [her partner]. Bloody knew you lot wouldn’t believe me!!!”

Moments later, the image was apparently deleted after fans took to the comments and slammed the star.

Over on Twitter, one person tweeted: “@KerryKatona7 what made you think this was going to be anything other than totally insensitive? I’m in a place of acceptance (mostly) with my infertility, so things like this aren’t as triggering as they used to be. But for lots of women ‘pranks’ like this hurt.”

To do this and delete it as an April Fools joke is absolutely disgusting @KerryKatona7,” a second person penned. “The pain this will cause some people is heartbreaking let alone how insensitive it is.”

In agreement, a third said: “It’s the lowest thing to lie about let alone ‘joke’ about pregnancy for April Fools. Disgusting.”

Following the backlash, a spokesperson for Katona spoke out and reportedly said the ‘joke’ wasn’t meant to go on her ‘public’ profile.

They are believed to have said: “It was an April Fools joke for her partner Ryan but she posted it to her public account and not her private one with very close friends by accident.”

“Kerry herself cannot have any more children due to medical issues and has openly spoken about this in the past. She sincerely apologises to anyone who is offended and would never post anything to purposely upset anyone.”

Katona, who can no longer have kids herself, shares Molly, 20, and Lilly-Sue, 18, with Brian McFadden; Heidi, 14, and Maxwell, 13, with Mark Croft, and daughter DJ with the late George Kay.
