A teenager named Lawson Spolansky has gone viral after revealing his best friend of 10 years was actually an actor hired by his family.
While having a supportive friendship group is essential to a happy life, many of us struggle to find our people.
Making friends isn’t easy – but usually, if you put in the time, you’ll be rewarded with fulfilling and happy relationships.
However, this was sadly not the case for one teen.
Spolansky has gone viral after sharing the news that his ‘best friend’ of 10 years was actually an actor, hired by his family.

People have been left baffled by this bizarre story.
One disgusted commenter writes: “That’s so insane. Way to mess someone up by trying to ‘help’ them.”
Another points out: “You’d think after 10 years, a natural friendship would have blossomed and didn’t require payment.”
“What in The Truman Show is this? Dude omg that is insane!” comments another.
A fourth adds: “Can you take them to court for mental anguish and damages?? Like this is absolutely wild. Definitely write a book about this.”
In the incredibly odd TikTok, Spolansky opens with: “How I found out my entire decade relationship was a lie.”
He explains that when this story began in 2012, he was struggling with social and behavioural and didn’t want to go to school.
“I think I’d, like, thrown a plastic chair at the teacher,” Spolansky recalls.
“I remember my aunt came to my house, and she was like, ‘You need to become a better man’. Mind you, I’m only five years old.”
Spolansky then explains how he met another five-year-old boy, seemingly by coincidence, in a local park.
“And then his mom comes over. Blonde, skinny, probably could pass for a Hungarian model,” he describes.
“And then the little blonde boy takes my hand with me.”

Spolansky goes on to share that when the next school year started, he recognised the same boy from the playground – and before he knew it, they had developed a strong friendship.
They would go to each other’s house to play and this led to the TikToker doing ‘a lot better at school’.
Then in 2018, Dexter apparently told Spolansky he wanted to take the two of them on trips to Paris, Spain and Universal California – using some birthday money he had.
He told him to start planning what to pack, yet one day later, he started to make ‘weird excuses’ as to why they couldn’t go.
Spolansky then received a shock after he caught his father looking at an Instagram photo – which led to him being more suspicious that something wasn’t right.
“It’s crazy. [The photo was] Of ‘Dexter’, cause we’ll call him Dexter, his mom, and my aunt,” he shares.
“I said, what the f*** is this? Why is my best friend, his mom, and my aunt in an Instagram photo?”
After this unusual instance, more evidence built up as in 2021, his then-boyfriend was a pool boy for Dexter’s mother.
But while he was doing his job, he noticed the door was open, where Dexter and his mother were talking.
This is when Spolansky’s boyfriend heard the shocking admission.
“My aunt had hired this kid, well, she hired the mom,” he reveals. “And that mom made the kid be my best friend.
“In fact, his mom was his manager. They went to Hollywood, they went to go scouting out for Dexter’s real big role, cause apparently my role was an interactive media role.
“So Dexter was actually paid to be my friend.”
Spolanksy adds that he confronted his aunty – who confirmed that everything was true and ‘Dexter’ was in fact an actor she hired to be his friend.
Obviously, this situation has been rather horrific for Spolansky to deal with.
He says: “That kind of just breaks my heart. So now I’m left broken. Severe amount of trust issues. I thought I had a real friend.”
Spolansky ends his viral video with a message to his fake ‘friend’, saying: “Dexter, if you’re seeing this, what the f*** were you thinking?”
He adds to his aunt: “If you’re seeing this, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to forgive you. That’s pretty awful.”
