Comedian Lee Hurst has had his Twitter account suspended after sharing offensive tweets about Chris Whitty, who was harassed and manhandled by two men in the park.

The 57-year-old, who has over 18,000 Twitter followers, posted: “Whatever has happened to Chris Whitty is not enough.

“I’m not putting any caveats into the Chris Whitty story. F*** him and his #FullPay, care home murdering scummy pals.”

To finish off the verbal attack, he said: “If there were no video footage of Chris Whitty, we would have been told he was beaten up.”

After reading his rant, many Twitter users reported the comedian to Twitter and the police, arguing it was ‘inciting hatred’.

As Hurst’s account has now been suspended from the site, it can be presumed that Twitter agrees.

But this isn’t the first time that the comedian has had his profile withdrawn. In the past, he made a ‘vile’ joke about Greta Thunberg which had him temporarily removed from the site.

Earlier this year, he randomly referenced the teenager when he tweeted: “As soon as Greta discovers c***, she’ll stop complaining about the single-use plastic it’s wrapped in.”

Celebrities such as Jeremy Vine and David Baddiel got involved and blasted the comedian.

Vine commented: “I really wish I hadn’t looked to see why Lee Hurst is trending.”

“The reason that Lee Hurst is problematic isn’t because it carries underneath it a sense that women, as individuals, with political opinions, are erased by male sexual power. It’s problematic because it’s a s*** gag,” Baddiel said.

Despite the backlash, Hurst insisted that he had ‘no regrets’ about the comment and although some people didn’t like it, ‘it got laughs’.
