Piers Morgan, who quit Good Morning Britain over his controversial comments, has dubbed Olympian Gwen Berry an ‘attention-seeking brat’.

In his column for the Daily Mail, the TV presenter referenced Berry turning away from the American flag during the anthem at the Olympics trials.

He penned: “I’ve seen some outrageous antics from athletes in my time, but Ms Berry’s narcissistic tour de force at the US Olympics trials in Oregon on Saturday takes the proverbial biscuit.

“She was on the podium, having come third, when the American national anthem began place. Normally, this would be a moment of great pride and tearful joy for an Olympian. But not Ms Berry. Oh no.

“This was clearly one of the worst moments of her life.

“She preened, she sulked, she sighed, she frowned and she eye-rolled in one of the most pathetic tantrums I’ve ever seen from anyone supposedly representing their country.”

Morgan then referenced Japanese tennis star Naomi Osaka, who shared concerns over journalists’ questions at the French Open tournament.

He continued: “But I fear narcissist Naomi’s only going to end up with silver in the Attention-Seeking Brat competition, for we now have a comfortable new frontrunner in the form of American hammer thrower Gwen Berry.”

Morgan isn’t the only person to call out Berry. Republican congressman Dan Crenshaw has argued that she should be barred from the Olympic Games.

On Fox & Friends, he ranted: “We don’t need any more activist athletes… She should be removed from the team. The entire point of the team is to represent the United States of America.”

However, Berry has defended her move and has insisted that she’s a proud American.

On Twitter, she penned: “I never said I hated this country! People try to put words in my mouth but they can’t. That’s why I speak out. I LOVE MY PEOPLE.”
