‘Line Of Duty’ Leaks New Celebrity Guest Actor In ‘Embarrassing Blunder’

Line of Duty will have a new celebrity guest actor joining the show, but the news has been leaked early thanks to an ‘embarrassing blunder’.

The star’s identity was accidentally revealed on BBC Maestro, a site that sells online writing courses with the show’s writer, Jed Mercutio.

The error has been dubbed ‘humiliating’ by a broadcasting spokesperson.

A source told The Sun: “This is an embarrassing and humiliating blunder. A lot of time and effort had gone into keeping the star’s role a secret.

Line of Duty goes to a lot of trouble making sure nothing gets out to ruin the surprise for viewers — but the BBC has shot itself in the foot on this and broken its own embargo.”

Fans of the hit show will know that Season 6 is currently airing on Sunday nights at 9 pm.

However, BBC Maestro accidentally shared a snippet from the next series which led to the mystery actor being revealed.

According to those that have viewed the footage, DI Steve Arnott is shown looking at a computer database, which shows the celebrity’s face.

Although the BBC has been left outraged by the accidental leak, Mercutio has been very good-natured about it.

Speaking to The Sun, he said: “The outstanding detective work of eagle-eyed Line of Duty fans has been awarded a glowing commendation from the gaffer himself, Supt Ted Hastings.

“Their call-up papers for AC-12 are in the post!”

Who is the new Line of Duty actor?

The Line of Duty leaked spoiler has led to speculation as to who the famous actor could be.

Following the blunder, the BBC has managed to keep the mystery person tightly under wraps.

But so far, it’s rumoured the star could be Richard Madden, David Tennant, Riz Ahmed, or even ‘Luther‘ star Idris Elba.

Is Line of Duty based on a true story?

In Line of Duty, many of the events which take place are made up of fictional storylines. However, there are many anti-corruption branches situated across the UK which inspire the programme’s various storylines.

Since Line of Duty season 2, the producers have been taking advice from a former police officer, The Mirror reports, to make it feel as authentic as possible.

He told The Telegraph: “Jed [Mercutio] will always use dramatic licence, but there are very few places where he’ll push the boundaries of what police work is really like.

“The job can be a lot more complex and time-consuming than we’re sometimes able to show in the series. But I’ve spoken to officers of various forces and ranks, and they recognise the fundamentals of day-to-day policing are there.

“Most forces have several thousand employees and the drama focuses on a case involving two or three people.”
