Idris Elba has confirmed that he will begin shooting the Luther movie later this year.
There have been rumours that a film version of the hit BBC show was in the works for several years, but now it’s finally been confirmed!
The 48-year-old admitted it’s been a ‘long time coming’ and revealed that he is ‘super excited’ for filming to get underway.

Opening up about his plans for 2021 during a chat with The Capital Weekender, he said: “Definitely making more music, people that love my film and stuff, listen, I’m going to be making Luther ‘The Movie’.
“Yeah I’m super excited and I hope the fans are sort of excited for that, it’s been a long time coming for a movie, for people that have loved the show.
“We’ve been making the show for 10 years, so we’re making a film.”
Previously, Luther’s scriptwriter Neil Cross has revealed that there are no plans for a sixth series of the drama.

In December, he told Australia’s Insider magazine: “‘There is not going to be a season six – definitively no season six’, for a fear of ‘churning it out like sausages’.”
However, he did hint that there’s something ‘exciting’ on its way.
He added: “But Idris, [director] Jamie Payne, and I will shortly have some exciting news to share.”
In the meantime, Cross has been working on his recently aired ITV series The Sisters, starring Russell Tovey, Bertie Carvel and Amrita Acharia.
