This nearly two-hour-long documentary is written and directed by Irish filmmaker Laura McGann.

It introduces us to the fascinating world of freediving, through the inspiring story of Italian champion Alessia Zecchini and Ireland’s Stephen Keenan.

Freediving is an extreme and dangerous sport where competitors dive to unimaginable depths underwater, holding their breath until they resurface without the aid of any scuba gear.

In The Deepest Breath, we follow Zecchini’s quest to set a new world record in freediving, and she is joined by safety diver Stephen Keenan, whose role is crucial in this perilous sport.

With freedivers facing the risk of blackouts during their ascent, safety divers like Keenan are essential to ensure their well-being.

The heart of the documentary lies in the training and preparation of Zecchini as she gears up to take on the legendary Blue Hole in Dahab, Egypt.

This daunting dive takes her an astounding 184 feet below the surface of the Red Sea and features an 85-foot-long tunnel.

The challenge? Zecchini must swim from one safety rope to the other, on either side of the tunnel, where Keenan awaits to meet her.
