If you’re looking for a film that grabs your attention and doesn’t let go, the thriller genre is a perfect place to start. Over the past few weeks, fans have been taking to social media to rave about movies like Security and TV shows like Pact of Silence

And now, there’s another thriller to add to your watchlist. It’s directed by a true Hollywood legend, David Fincher, known for hits like Gone Girl, The Zodiac and Fight Club. With a pedigree like that, is it any wonder his latest creation is another certified hit?

The film in question is called The Killer, and it hit Netflix just this week.

Alongside a big-name director, the movie also boasts an impressive cast, including Michael Fassbender (Prometheus), Tilda Swinton (We Need To Talk About Kevin), and Arliss Howard (The Lost World: Jurassic Park).

It follows our titular character, an assassin played by Fassbender after a brush with death causes him to lose trust in the very fabric of his reality.

The official Netflix synopsis reads: “After a fateful near-miss, an assassin battles his employers, and himself, on an international manhunt he insists isn’t personal.”

After watching the trailer for The Killer, it’s easy to see why it’s captured the internet’s attention so wholeheartedly.

In one truly gripping moment, Fassbender points a gun at his target, whilst chillingly narrating: “If I’m effective, it’s because of one simple fact. I. Don’t. Give. A. F***.”

Netflix viewers who got in early have already begun heaping the film with praise.

One took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to write: “One of the best movies I’ve seen all year.

“Such an incredibly unique approach to storytelling with little dialogue and more ambient narration. Almost no supporting cast, it’s 95% Fassbender and he’s 200% awesome. This movie deserves some Oscar love.”

Fans have also been quick to praise Fassbender’s performance, with one commenting on the YouTube trailer: “Michael Fassbender’s acting is simply mesmerising. He has an incredible range and intensity that brings his characters to life in a way that is both captivating and unforgettable.

“Whether he’s playing a tortured soul or a charismatic villain, Fassbender always delivers a performance that is both nuanced and powerful.”

But it isn’t just fans who have been offering rave reviews on The Killer. Movie critics, too, are blown away by the film.

You can watch the trailer that’s got everybody talking below…

Mark Hughes writes for Forbes: “Fincher’s directing is as pitch-perfect as ever. His attention to detail and how each small element can add to the tension and sense of place, his almost transcendent awareness and subtle manipulation of pacing, the way he brings out the best in his cast, is all an impressive display that begs the question: how the hell is he still getting better at this?

“Still at the top of his game in his favourite playground, Fincher puts on a master class in thriller filmmaking, keeping things simmering and sizzling just beneath the surface until they violently erupt into the open and upend lives.”

The film also boasts a 6.9/10 rating on IMDb and an impressive 86% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Killer is streaming on Netflix now.
