Charlie Kirk‘s memorial is scheduled for later today (September 21), and will take place at State Farm Stadium in Phoenix, Arizona.

A security expert has revealed the chilling reason why Kirk’s funeral is being held in a stadium, as over 100,000 people are expected to be in and around the venue to pay their respects.

The memorial is open to the public, with those attending having to have registered online by providing a name, email, phone number, and postcode.

The stadium has a capacity of 60,000, and funeral-goers are being let in on a first-come, first-served basis.

Several high-profile figures and politicians, including President Donald Trump, are expected to be in attendance.

Attendees will see heightened security measures put in place throughout the venue, likened to that of the Super Bowl, as an estimated $10 million has been spent to ensure the event is safe.

Kirk, 31, was fatally shot on September 10 on a university campus in Utah, while hosting an event for students.

After a 33-hour manhunt following Kirk’s murder, the FBI revealed the identity of the alleged assassin on Friday (September 12) as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson.

Following this incident, coupled with continued political unrest throughout the U.S., there’s a particularly chilling reason why Kirk’s funeral is being held at a stadium.

Speaking to LADBible, security specialist Will Geddes said: “The venue itself will have its own security as a stadium.

“I would hope there would be sufficient turnstiles, search points, security gates and checkpoints to ensure that people cannot bring malicious items in.”

He explained that having the event at the stadium is an ‘intentional’ move to minimize threats – for example, from those that could be hiding in overlooking buildings or rooftops.

“You’ve got everyone comfortably accommodated; whatever they’re going to do will be seen and enjoyed and celebrated by everyone,” he added.

“One of the key factors is who will be present at the stadium.

“Will Charlie Kirk’s widow and the children be there? Will other celebrities be there?

“So you have multifaceted elements.

“Obviously, there’s the protection of the crowd themselves and then also the people coming along, and then the VIP protection, too.”
