The FBI has released new surveillance images and a video in the urgent search for Nancy Guthrie.

The 84-year-old mother of Today show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie vanished from her Arizona home 11 days ago.

And while days went by without a single breakthrough, new footage released by the FBI has rocked the case.

The newly-released clip shows a masked person wearing gloves and a backpack appearing to tamper with the camera at Nancy’s front door in the early hours of the morning she disappeared.

FBI Director Kash Patel said the individual seen in the images may be armed.

Nancy was dropped off at her home outside Tucson on the night of January 31 and was reported missing around midday the following day.

Around 9:50 p.m., her son-in-law dropped her off at her home in the Catalina Foothills, a desert-adjacent community just north of Tucson.

When she did not show up for her regular Sunday morning plans – which included a live-streamed church gathering with friends – her family alerted authorities, leading to a missing-person report the next day.

The FBI said yesterday that it had not identified any suspects or persons of interest.

The US has been gripped by the disappearance of Nancy, as investigators continue a determined search nearly two weeks after she vanished from her Tucson, Arizona home.

Evidence points to foul play

From the earliest hours of the investigation, law enforcement has treated the situation as more than a routine disappearance.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department, backed by the FBI, believes Nancy was taken against her will from her own home.

At the residence, investigators found a trail of blood near the front porch and confirmed through DNA testing that the blood belonged to Nancy.

Suspiciously, a doorbell security camera was disconnected at approximately 1:47 a.m. the morning she disappeared, and another camera’s motion was logged shortly after – suggesting someone may have tampered with surveillance to avoid capture on video.

Family’s emotional pleas

Savannah Guthrie, 54, has been at the forefront of public appeals for information.

She has posted multiple video messages on social media alongside her siblings, imploring the public for help and expressing desperate hope that their mother is still alive.

In her most recent plea, Guthrie spoke directly to the camera, saying: “We believe our mom is still out there… We are at an hour of desperation,” urging anyone with relevant information – even small details – to contact law enforcement.

Earlier, Guthrie appeared in a family video with her siblings, saying they had received some form of communication and pleaded with the person responsible to return their mother safely, affirming they would ‘pay’ if it meant bringing her home.

Ransom notes and public appeals

Two ransom notes reportedly linked to Nancy’s disappearance surfaced early in the investigation, including one that purportedly demanded millions in bitcoin.

The authenticity of these notes and their connection to actual suspects have not been confirmed by authorities, but they added a troubling dimension to the case and drew intense media coverage.

Authorities have not confirmed any contact between the Guthrie family and the alleged kidnappers.

Investigation ongoing with FBI involvement

The FBI has established a 24-hour command post in Tucson, drawing agents and resources from across the country to support the local sheriff’s department.

Investigators continue to canvass the area, analyze digital evidence, and monitor leads, but as of yesterday, no suspects, vehicles, or persons of interest have been publicly identified.

The bureau has also offered a reward of up to $50,000 for information that leads to Nancy’s safe return or the arrest of those responsible – a move aimed at encouraging public cooperation.

Health concerns amplify urgency

Adding to the family’s anguish is Nancy’s health profile: authorities note that she has limited mobility, requires daily medication, and is not capable of leaving her home unaided – factors that strongly suggest she could not have wandered off on her own.

As Nancy’s pacemaker and other devices were disconnected after her disappearance, there are growing fears about her welfare while she remains missing.

National support and attention

Nancy’s disappearance has drawn nationwide attention, with tributes, prayers and support pouring in for the Guthrie family.

Public interest has been heightened further by Savannah’s status as a major network news anchor, who paused her duties – including co-hosting coverage of the 2026 Winter Olympics – to focus on the search for her mother.

Despite disappointments and unanswered questions, Savannah and her siblings continue to advocate for public help.

“We need your help to bring our mom home,” Savannah said, a plea that resonates far beyond Tucson, urging anyone with information to step forward and assist authorities.

Major update in the investigation

In a significant development, the FBI has released the first surveillance images showing a masked individual on Nancy’s porch during the early hours of February 1.

The footage – pulled from residual data recovered by investigators – shows a person with a backpack and what appeared to be a handgun holster attempting to disable or obstruct the camera.

Officials have not publicly identified the individual or confirmed whether this person is directly responsible for Nancy’s disappearance, but the release of the images marks the most substantive public lead in the case to date.

FBI Director Kash Patel wrote on X, formerly Twitter: “New images in the search for Nancy Guthrie.

“Over the last eight days, the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department have been working closely with our private sector partners to continue to recover any images or video footage from Nancy Guthrie’s home that may have been lost, corrupted, or inaccessible due to a variety of factors – including the removal of recording devices.

“The video was recovered from residual data located in backend systems.

“Working with our partners – as of this morning, law enforcement has uncovered these previously inaccessible new images showing an armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door the morning of her disappearance.”

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said she and the President have reviewed the newly released surveillance footage in the search for Savannah’s missing mother and that Trump‘s initial reaction to seeing the photos was ‘just pure disgust.’

“It’s heartbreaking to see,” she commented.

Leavitt urged anyone with information about the person seen in the images to contact the FBI, which is continuing to support state and local authorities leading the investigation on the ground.

“The president encourages any American across the country with any knowledge of the suspect to please call the FBI,” Leavitt said.

She added that the White House, which also reshared the FBI’s newly released images on social media as the search continues, is keeping Savannah and her family in their thoughts and prayers, saying they hope those responsible are found quickly and that her mother is brought home safely.

The surveillance images and video mark the first major breakthrough in the case that has gripped America.

The FBI is offering a $50,000 reward for anyone with information that could help in the search.
