President Biden is set to announce executive actions on gun control in the US.
A White House official says new measures will be put in place that will target ‘ghost guns’.
Ghost guns are known to be difficult to trace, as they don’t have a serial number and are self-assembled.
Typically, they’re purchased by minors and people who wouldn’t pass background checks.
To enforce the measure, Biden won’t need the approval of Congress.
However, he’s only given the Justice Department 30 days to come up with a solution to reducing the number of ghost guns.
The move has been praised by gun control group Everytown for Gun Safety.
Group president John Feinblatt stated: “Each of these executive actions will start to address the epidemic of gun violence that has raged throughout the pandemic and begin to make good on President Biden’s promise to be the strongest gun safety president in history.”
However, the National Rifle Association argues it’s ‘extreme’. Some members are even threatening to fight for their ‘freedom’.
They say their constitutional rights will be breached if the measure is imposed, as the right to bear arms is classed under the Second Amendment to the US Constitution.
But as it will take time to implement the new measures, this battle won’t be for quite some time.
Still, Biden is urging for not ‘another’ minute to be wasted, as he says it’s ‘common-sense steps that will save lives’.
