Prince Harry says critics of his wife, Meghan Markle, won’t ‘stop until she dies’.

The Duke of Sussex made the comments during his new mental health documentary series – titled The Me You Can’t See – while chatting to Oprah Winfrey.

He revealed that one of his biggest fears in life is ‘history repeating itself’ as his mother, Princess Diana, was ‘chased to her death while she was in a relationship someone that wasn’t white’.

He said: “Within the first eight days of our relationship being made public was when they said, ‘Harry’s girl almost straight outta Compton.’ And that her exotic DNA will be thickening the royal blood’.

“We would get followed, photographed, chased, harassed.

“History was repeating itself. My mother was chased to her death while she was in a relationship with someone who wasn’t white.

“And now look what’s happened.

“You want to talk about history repeating itself?

“They’re not going to stop until she dies.”

Reflecting on his decision to move his family to the US, he added: “Eventually when I made that decision for my family, I was still told you can’t do this.

“And it’s like: ‘Well how bad does it have to get until I am allowed to do this?’

“She was going to end her life. It shouldn’t have to get to that.”

Opening up about how he feels ‘somewhat ashamed’ of how he dealt with that situation, he added: “Meghan decided to share with me the suicidal thoughts and the practicalities of how she was going to end her life.

“The scariest thing for her was her clarity of thought. She hadn’t ‘lost it.’ She wasn’t crazy. She wasn’t self-medicating, be it through pills or through alcohol.

“She was absolutely sober. She was completely sane. Yet in the quiet of night, these thoughts woke her up.

“I’m somewhat ashamed of the way that I dealt with them.”

Meghan spoke out about experiencing suicidal thoughts during a separate interview with Oprah which aired earlier this year.

She said: “Look, I was really ashamed to say it at the time and ashamed to have to admit it to Harry especially, because I know how much loss he has suffered, but I knew that if I didn’t say it, then I would do it.

“I just didn’t want to be alive anymore.”
