Sinéad O’Connor’s son Shane tragically died when he was just 17 years old.

O’Connor, 56, was an Irish singer and musician who was best known for the track ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ – a power ballad which was originally by Prince.

Sadly, it was reported that the legendary singer passed away on July 26 and at the time of writing, a cause of death has yet to be revealed.

Prior to O’Connor’s passing, she faced the most difficult time of her life following the devastating loss of her teenage son.

This was even alluded to in her final social media post.

Last year, in 2022, O’Connor’s son died by suicide and she confirmed the loss in a tweet.

The singer – who converted to Islam in 2018 – penned: “My beautiful son, Nevi’im Nesta Ali Shane O’Connor, the very light of my life, decided to end his earthly struggle today and is now with God.

“May he rest in peace and may no one follow his example. My baby. I love you so much. Please be at peace.”

Prior to his death, Shane had been missing for a few days and the police launched an appeal to find him, reports The Mirror.

O’Connor had taken to social media and pleaded with her fans to help her find him. She also appealed to her son, urging him to get in touch with the police and get the help that he needed.

She wrote: “Shane, your life is precious. God didn’t chisel that beautiful smile on your beautiful face for nothing. My world would collapse without you. You are my heart. Please don’t stop it from beating. Please don’t harm yourself.

“Go to the Gardai and let’s get you to [the] hospital. This is a message for my son, Shane. Shane, it’s not funny any more all this going missing. You are scaring the crap out of me. Could you please do the right thing and present yourself at a Gardai station. If you are with Shane please call the Gardai for his safety.”

Tragically, police confirmed Shane’s body had been found two days after the search.

O’Connor had four children – she was also the mum to Jake Reynolds from her first husband, John Reynolds.

She shared her daughter Rosin Waters with Irish journalist John Waters, while she had Yeshua Francis Neil Bonadio with Frank Bonadio in 2006.
