‘This Morning’ Hit With Ofcom Complaints Over Julia Hartley-Bewer’s Comments About Meghan Markle

This Morning has been hit with a string of Ofcom complaints over comments Julia Hartley-Bewer made about Meghan Markle, just a month after Piers Morgan quit Good Morning Britain after angering viewers.

Hartley-Bewer was invited to appear on the show to chat about a new photograph released by the Royal Family following Prince Philip’s death.

It shows the Duke of Edinburgh and the Queen surrounded by seven of their grandchildren. However, Archie, who belongs to Meghan and Prince Harry is missing as he wasn’t born at the time.

Julia said: “I wonder if Meghan [Markle] has managed to take offence to this photograph that doesn’t include her son.

She added: “Well she probably thinks it’s a racist photograph, taken before her son was even conceived.

“I’m sure she’s managed to take offence at it anyway.”

Nicola Thorpe, who was also appearing as a guest, then interrupted and told Julia ‘she can’t say something like that’.

Julia replied: “I can.”

Nicola then fired back, saying: “To suggest that Meghan would think that something was racist, something that didn’t even exist at the time, you yourself are kind of pushing this agenda.”

However, Julia then insisted she just meant it as a ‘joke’.

She said: “I’m making a joke pointing out that some people are able to find offence in anything, as it seems she would’ve done after pointing the finger at senior Royals without naming names.”

Meghan accused the Royal Family of racism during her explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey which aired in May on CBS.

She said there had been ‘conversations and concerns’ about how ‘dark’ his skin would be when he was born.

When asked, Harry refused to name the people involved but Oprah later confirmed The Queen and Prince Philip were not involved.
