Tom Holland has announced that he is taking a break from acting.

Holland, 27, is a highly acclaimed English actor known for his portrayal of Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The Uncharted star has since appeared in several successful films, solidifying his place as one of the most prominent young actors in Hollywood.

But now he’s decided the time is right to take a break.

During an interview with Extra, Holland confessed that his experience on the set of the upcoming Apple TV+ series, The Crowded Room, ‘did break’ him.

The psychological crime thriller, also starring Amanda Seyfried and Emmy Rossum, explores the story of a man arrested for a violent shooting at New York City’s Rockefeller Center in 1979.

Despite Holland’s previous involvement in the action-packed Spider-Man films, The Crowded Room managed to deeply affect him on a psychological level.

The Impossible actor said: “We were exploring certain emotions that I have definitely never experienced before.

“And then on top of that, being a producer, dealing with the day-to-day problems that come with any film set, just added that extra level of pressure.

“I’m now taking a year off, and that is a result of how difficult this show was.”

And it turns out Holland has already made plans for his year-long sabbatical.

“You know, I’ve been going to the garden centre and buying plants and doing my best to keep them alive,” he said.

“I’ve just been trying to be a regular bloke from Kingston and just relax.”

Holland also recently told Entertainment Weekly that he’d quit drinking.

Giving his reason for doing so, he added: “I’m no stranger to the physical aspects of the job doing the whole action-movie thing.

“But the mental aspect, it really beat me up and it took a long time for me to recover afterwards, to sort of get back to reality.”

Another major life decision Holland has made in recent times is to take a break from social media.

“I find Instagram and Twitter to be overstimulating, to be overwhelming,” he said in an Instagram live.

“I get caught up and I spiral when I read things about me online and ultimately it’s very detrimental to my mental state.

“So, I decided to take a step back and delete the app.”

Holland was recently one of the favourites to be named the next James Bond, taking over from Daniel Craig.

However, his chances were apparently scuppered as Bond’s producers said the next actor to play the spy ‘won’t be Gen Z’.

The Crowded Room will be out on Apple TV+ on June 9.
