Donald Trump, who previously said ‘he’d knock Joe Biden out ‘in seconds,’ has claimed the President is showing ‘such weakness’ in dealing with competition between China and the US.
The 75-year-old made the claims in an interview with Fox News.
Biden spoke with Chinese President Xi Jinping by phone in September and reportedly ‘made clear’ the discussion was part of the United States’ ongoing effort to responsibly manage the competition’.

In response to this, Trump said: “I don’t think it is a good way to express it to China. It shows such weakness. We have shown such weakness.
“China respected this country when I was president. China does not respect our country anymore. It is very sad.
“And even that message – that’s not a good message. It’s not an appropriate message.”
After that call, the White House said that Biden and Jinping ‘discussed the responsibility of both nations to ensure competition does not veer into conflict.’
During his time in office, Trump signed a Phase 1 trade agreement with China, in January 2020.
Tensions were eased between the world’s two largest economies after decades of complaints that Beijing was manipulating its currency and stealing trade secrets from American firms.

The agreement specified commitments from Beijing to halt intellectual property theft, refrain from currency manipulation, cooperate in financial services and purchase an additional $200 billion of U.S. products during 2020 and 2021.
At the end of Trump’s presidency, his administration warned that China was still a huge national security risk to America.
Since then, the Biden administration has spoken of the ‘reality’ that China ‘has rapidly become more assertive’ and is capable of ‘combining its economic, diplomatic, military and technological power to mount a sustained challenge to a stable and open international system.’
