An expert says that the secret to a healthy relationship is practising ‘monogamish’, but what exactly is this?

There are plenty of dating trends that have emerged in recent years, from ‘dexting’ to getting ‘zombied’.

While most typically revolve around how technology and social media have affected our relationships, ‘monogamish’ highlights how it can be difficult to keep a spark long-term.

Doctor Tara Suwinyattichaiporn, who you may know from the reality TV show Celebs Go Dating, says that the ‘monogamish’ movement has become increasingly popular over the years – and it’s not difficult to see why.

Monogamy is a relationship in which two people form an exclusive partnership.

‘Monogamish’ is different from this, as it encourages partners to explore and have s**ual relationships with people outside of their relationship.

The term was reportedly coined by Dan Savage in 2011 and it’s quickly become mainstream.

Essentially, it involves a couple still remaining romantically and emotionally committed to one another. However, if they’ve come to a pre-arranged agreement, they can have s**ual relations with others.

It is important to note however that when it comes to ‘monogamish’, there’s no ‘one size fits all approach’ and each couple will have their own boundaries, as per Men’s Health.

It’s a trend that might sound like trouble to some, however, Suwinyattichaiporn believes it could solve the ‘divorce epidemic’.

The s** and relationship expert explains to The Sun: “This can be the answer to the divorce epidemic. People think monogamy is sacred. But is it really, when so many people break that promise?”

She continues: “Instead of making it a morally superior thing, why don’t we become more logical and talk about what is missing after people have been married for ten years?

“Asking your partner how their day was is boring. Showing them a photo of someone else and asking, ‘Would you f*** them?’ is a lot more exciting.”

Suwinyattichaiporn, who practices ‘monogamish’ with her husband, predicts that within the next 10 years, it will become the norm in many relationships.

The Celebs Go Dating expert, who says she gets equal interest from both men and women with the trend, adds that she’s seen a ‘surge’ in its popularity.

For anyone who is curious about practising ‘monogamish’ in their relationship, Suwinyattichaiporn advises thorough research and to take it ‘slowly’.

She adds that it is a topic which should be discussed ‘sensitively’ and when both parties are ready.
