Celine Dion’s family has revealed that the singer’s illness is ‘impossible to control’, as they updated fans on her worrying condition.

The ‘My Heart Will Go On’ singer, 55, is an international music icon who is known for her powerful vocals and emotive performances.

Dion’s illustrious career spans several decades and is marked by chart-topping hits, iconic ballads, and numerous accolades.

‘The Power Of Love’ singer has been absent from the stage in recent months due to a rare and debilitating illness.

In an interview with Hello!, Claudette, Dion’s sister, has offered insights into the family’s experiences, hopes, and challenges in dealing with Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS).

This autoimmune neurological disorder causes muscle rigidity and agonising spasms, often leaving individuals with symptoms resembling ‘human statues’, making simple actions such as walking or talking arduous.

Claudette has shared the family’s deep concern for Dion’s well-being, stating: “We are keeping our fingers crossed in the quest to find a remedy for Celine’s distressing ailment.

“The spasms are uncontrollable, affecting all her muscles, much like an abrupt leg or calf cramp that people occasionally experience. There’s little we can do to ease her suffering.”

Despite the immense challenges posed by SPS, Claudette has emphasised Dion’s resilience and determination to regain her health.

She said: “She’s putting in every effort to regain her health. She’s a resilient woman.”

To support Dion during this challenging time, her sister Linda has reportedly moved into her home, joining the singer’s three sons, René-Charles, Eddy, and Nelson, in providing care and assistance.

Speaking to Le Journal de Montreal, via SheMazing, Claudette offered a glimpse into Dion’s life away from the public eye.

“When I call her and she’s busy, I speak to my sister Linda who lives with her and tells me that she’s working hard,” Claudette shared.

“She’s listening to the top researchers in the field of this rare disease as much as possible.”

Dion had originally planned to embark on a tour in spring 2023 but made the difficult decision to cancel it in December.

The ‘I’m Alive’ artist openly discussed her condition in an Instagram video, acknowledging the challenges she has faced.

“It’s been exceedingly challenging for me to confront these trials and openly discuss the issues I’ve been grappling with,” Dion said.

“While we’re still unravelling the mysteries of this rare condition, we now understand it as the root cause behind all the spasms I’ve been enduring.”

While there is no known cure for SPS, there are treatments available to slow down its progression.

Dion remains dedicated to reducing her symptoms and works closely with a team of medical experts to manage her condition.
