A search team has found one of two black boxes from the Boeing 737 which crashed in southern China earlier this week.

Director of the Office of Aviation Safety at the Civil Aviation Authority of China, Zhu Tao, reportedly told reporters at a briefing on March 23 that the unit had suffered damage but remained ‘relatively intact’.

Apparently, the black box will be sent to Beijing where it will undergo decoding and analysis to determine the cause of the tragedy, which still hasn’t been established.

Zhu reportedly stated: “This will provide important evidence as to the cause of the accident.”

The director went on to say that he and the team will ‘go all-out find the flight data recorder,’ which will help ‘reconstruct’ the entire incident.

The accident investigation director of the Civil Aviation Authority of China, Mao Yanfeng, added at the press conference that they are also searching for the other black box which was aboard the plane.

According to the country’s state television reports, their search has been put to a halt due to heavy rain.

The head of the fire and rescue service in the Guangxi region, Zheng Xi, reportedly explained: “The area is overgrown with weeds and the terrain is steep.

“With the rain, visibility has been poor, introducing a certain degree of difficulty into the rescue operation.”

At the time of the tragedy, FlightRadar24 reported that the plane’s last recordable information was at around 14:22pm local time. It’s believed it was flying at an altitude of 3,225 feet.

Reportedly, there were 132 passengers aboard the plane and there are believed to be no survivors.

The crash is believed to be one of the deadliest aviation disasters in the past three decades.
