‘Gogglebox’ Hit With Ofcom Complaints Over Meghan Markle Joke

Gogglebox has been hit with a string of Ofcom complaints after jokes about Meghan Markle were made on the show.

The cast sat down to watch Prince Harry and Meghan’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey on Friday night’s episode where they learned the couple had been cut off from the Royals financially.

Stephen Webb, who has appeared on the Channel 4 programme since 2013, annoyed viewers when he said that the Duchess of Sussex should ‘get a job on Eastenders‘.

Siblings Sophie and Pete Sandiford also joked Prince Harry should ‘stick her in the gift shop’ so that she can earn money, which didn’t go down well.

One person wrote on Twitter: “I was so disheartened to see most of the #Gogglebox regulars sneering at Meghan because she’d dared to voice her side of the argument.”

Another added: “Anyone else disappointed with Gogglebox and lack of support to the Royal Family?”

Ofcom received another batch of complaints from Good Morning Britain viewers last week who were left outraged when Piers Morgan accused the Duchess of lying about feeling suicidal.

The 55-year-old said he didn’t ‘believe a word’ that she had said and ended up walking off set and quitting his job.

He said at the time: “I’m sorry, I don’t believe a word she said.

“Who did you go to? What did they say to you? I wouldn’t believe it if she read me a weather report.”
