Ryan Murphy’s Monster series has been renewed for two more seasons as an anthology which will follow two new killers.

Netflix’s Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story follows the Milwaukee Monster, an American serial killer who killed 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991.

It stars Evan Peters, who has been critically praised for his performance, as Dahmer.

The Watcher, which was written by American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, has also been renewed for a second season.

It’s loosely based on a true story about a family who moves into their dream home and then begins receiving mysterious letters.

The first season starred Naomi Watts, Bobby Cannavale, Jennifer Coolidge, Mia Farrow, and more.

Announcing the developments, Netflix global TV head Bela Bajaria said in a statement: “Audiences can’t take their eyes off Monster and The Watcher.

“The creative team of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan on Monster along with Eric Newman on The Watcher are masterful storytellers who captivated audiences all over the world.

“The back-to-back force of these two series is due to Ryan’s distinct original voice which created cultural sensations and we are thrilled to continue telling stories in the Monster and Watcher universes.”

After hearing the news that Monster will be being turned into a series, hundreds have taken to Twitter and the reaction is pretty mixed.

One said: “I’m sensing Ted Bundy and John Wayne Gacy next.”

Calling it now: “Charles Manson and Ted Bundy or Ed Gein and John Wayne Gacy,” a second predicted.

While a third wrote: “We will be watching.”

“To be honest, I think their story with JD was so well done, did the best job at centring the stories of the victims than any storytelling about this particular man ever has done and was captivating,” someone else said.

“These people impacted so many elements of our society. I’d be interested in more stories.”

Information is pretty vague surrounding both series at the moment, however, it’s unclear if Evan will return to the Monster series as another serial killer.

In an interview with Netflix, the American Horror Story star admitted that he was ‘very scared’ of looking into Dahmer’s actions and ‘diving into’ them.

He said: “Trying to commit to that was absolutely going to be one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do in my life because I wanted it to be very authentic.”

Peters went on to say that in order to play the serial killer as authentically as possible, he had ‘to go to really dark places and stay there for an extended period of time’.
