And with so much new content being made available to stream these days, it’s more difficult than ever to stand out in such a way.
However, fans have lauded one show in particular – with some branding it the ‘most powerful’ show they’ve ever seen.

Maid, a 10-part series inspired by the New York Times bestselling memoir by Stephanie Land, is receiving masses of attention and praise.
The show follows a young mother named Alex (Margaret Qualley), who is suffering from emotional abuse by her alcoholic boyfriend, Sean (Nick Robinson).
The show’s synopsis describes it as the story of ‘one young mother’s incredible story of survival and resilience as she navigates the world of poverty, abuse, and redefining her worth against all odds’.

Several fans have taken to social media to share their opinions on why the show is significant, with one Facebook user saying that Maid might well be the most important series in history.
She writes: “Maid on Netflix is possibly one of the most important series in history.
“Yep. I said it.
“Why is talking about domestic violence so important? It’s important because even though women are the victims, domestic violence carries this terrible stigma even in 2021.
“It’s important because abusers are often publicly great guys.
“The victim’s family loves them and they will often defend the abuser, leaving the victim without a support system.
“The victim becomes the bad guy who wants to break up the family.
“This series is important because abusers themselves and many other people do not understand how terrorising verbal and mental abuse is – the constant promise of change, the apologies.”
On Twitter, fans have echoed similar thoughts, with one user stating that Maid is one of the most powerful shows they have seen.

“But it’s proof that physical abuse isn’t the only abuse in relationships and emotional abuse is just as serious and leaving is always okay.”
