Doherty announced that she was in remission in 2017. However, in 2020, the actress revealed that her cancer had returned the previous year and had progressed to stage four.
Stage four cancer indicates that cancer has spread from its original site to other parts of the body, often carrying a more serious prognosis.
Recently, Doherty took to Instagram to share a video documenting her treatment journey.
In the emotional footage, she can be seen getting prepared for a radiation session, which includes wearing a mask specifically fitted for her during brain radiation.

She wrote in the caption: “On January 5th, my CT scan showed mets in my brain.
“Yesterday’s video was showing the process of getting fitted for the mask which you wear during radiation to your brain.
“January 12, the first round of radiation took place. My fear is obvious. I am extremely claustrophobic and there was a lot going on in my life.
“I am fortunate as I have great doctors like Dr Amin Mirahdi and the amazing techs at cedar sinai. But that fear… The turmoil… the timing of it all… This is what cancer can look like.”
In a previous video shared with her fans, Doherty showcased the process of creating the mask used during scanning and radiotherapy, highlighting the preliminary steps taken before treatment commences.
Doherty had previously described her cancer diagnosis as a ‘bitter pill’ during an interview on Good Morning America.
She said: “It’s going to come out in a matter of days or a week that I’m stage four.
“So my cancer came back and that’s why I’m here.

Breast cancer is often identified through symptoms such as breast lumps or areas of thickened tissue.
The NHS advises seeking medical attention if any of the following signs are noticed: changes in breast size or shape, lumps or swelling in the armpits, new lumps or thickened tissue in the breasts, rash or skin changes on or around the nipple, or alterations in the appearance of the nipple.
Cancer Research UK say that 98 per cent of women will survive their cancer for five or more years after diagnosis.
