Netflix has announced that Squid Game is getting a reality show with a ‘$4.5million cash prize,’ which is the largest jackpot in reality TV history.

The streaming company has revealed that Squid Game: The Challenge will involve 456 participants from around the world competing in a series of challenges inspired by the hit programme.

Unlike its counterpart, there won’t be life-threatening consequences for those that lose. Instead, they’ll just return home empty-handed.

A statement read: “As [players] compete through a series of games inspired by the original show – plus surprising new additions – their strategies, alliances, and character will be put to the test while competitors are eliminated around them.”

To compete in the reality show version, participants must be 21 years or older. They must also be able to speak English and be available for up to 4 weeks in early 2023.

The popular South Korean drama follows the story of people with money issues competing in life-threatening versions of children’s games.

Currently, it’s the platform’s most popular series of all time. Within 28 days of launching, it’s believed 111million Netflix users tuned in to watch.

He said: “It took 12 years to bring the first season of Squid Game to life last year. But it took 12 days for Squid Game to become the most popular Netflix series ever.”

After hearing the exciting news, fans took to Twitter and shared their thoughts.

“Really very excited, thank you Netflix,” one said.

Another pitched in, tweeting: “Y’all gonna make me emotionally attached to characters again and make them die… Can’t wait!”
