Vladimir Putin has sent a chilling warning to the West in an early morning TV broadcast from Moscow.

The Russian President delivered his speech at around 6am on February 24 and stated that if anyone interferes with his plans for Ukraine, they will face ‘consequences’.

He said: “To anyone who would consider interfering from the outside – if you do, you will face consequences greater than any you have faced in history.”

Around the same time, explosions in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, could be heard.

It’s believed that on February 23, before Putin sent out his warning, the United Nations Security Council held an emergency meeting.

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, has urged the President to ‘stop his troops from attacking Ukraine’.

He said: “If indeed an operation is being prepared, I have only one thing to say from the bottom of my heart.

“President Putin, stop your troops from attacking Ukraine. Give peace a chance. Too many people have already died.”

However, the 69-year-old ignored Guterres’ pleas and went on to claim in his broadcast that he’s going to ‘demilitarise’ and ‘de-Nazify’ Ukraine.

In his statement, Putin encouraged its service members to ‘lay down their arms and go home,’ and added that Russia could not continue with its ‘constant threat’.

On February 23, US President Joe Biden responded to Putin’s attacks, commenting: “The prayers of the entire world are with the people of Ukraine tonight as they suffer an unprovoked and unjustified attack by Russian military forces.

“President Putin has chosen a premeditated war that will bring a catastrophic loss of life and human suffering. Russia alone is responsible for the death and destruction this attack will bring, and the United States and its Allies and partners will respond in a united and decisive way.

“The world will hold Russia accountable.”
