“Some people just snap. He snapped.”

She continued: “I think it’s remarkable and wonderful that Chris Rock did not take it to that other place it could have gone.

“All I know is sometimes you get to a point and you behave badly. I myself have acted badly on occasion.”

During the show, Goldberg went on to say that Smith shouldn’t be stripped of his Oscar for the incident, adding: “We’re not going to take that Oscar from him.

“There will be consequences I’m sure, but I don’t think that’s what they’re going to do, particularly because Chris said ‘Listen, I’m not pressing any charges’.”

Piers Morgan Recalls ‘Unnerving Encounter’ With Will Smith

On March 29, the King Richard star took to Instagram and shared an apology for acting ’emotionally’ at the event.

The statement read: “Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behaviour at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally.

“I would like to publicly apologise to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.

“I would also like to apologise to the Academy, the producers of the show, all the attendees and everyone watching around the world. I would like to apologise to the Williams Family and my King Richard Family. I deeply regret that my behaviour has stained what has been otherwise a gorgeous journey for all of us.

“I am a work in progress.

“Sincerely, Will.”
