Jeremy Clarkson has been slammed after posting a ‘stupid’ and ‘wrong’ tweet about the UK heatwave.

The 62-year-old TV presenter took to Twitter and appeared to poke fun at the fact a level 3 warning that has been issued by the government.

The tweet read: “It’s very hot in the south of France but so far as I know, there’s no DefCon 8 level 3 killer death heatwave warning in place.”

Despite the post having 46000 likes, many users expressed how ‘silly’ that statement is since France has released health warnings regarding the hot weather.

In one tweet, someone said: “You ought to pay more attention to what’s going on in France then.”

Another posted: “Someone forgot to put their brain in this morning. You need to do your research a little bit better. If you want to cite France, the equivalent is 2003, when 11,000 people died of heat-related problems.”

A third said: “Yep, nothing happening in France, apart from 14k people being evacuated due to fires!”

After noticing lots of angry replies, the former Top Gear host began replying to some of them. However, he did so in his usual blunt fashion.

“Because they’re used to it and have aircon, Jeremy. our houses are designed to keep heat in meaning it gets HOTTER inside them,” wrote one person.

Clarkson replied: “Go and sit under a tree then.”

Along with the UK, France has been put on high alert as temperatures are set to reach 42 degrees in some parts of the country.

According to reports, there have already been wildfires that have caused 16,000 people to be evacuated from their homes and local hotels.

Gironde, a popular tourist site, apparently had nearly 25,000 acres destroyed by the fires.
