A mum is warning people to watch out for a ‘kidney bean trick’ in the UK.

Maria Celino-Straker, from the North East, initially presumed it was a part of a silly prank. However, after speaking to an ex-police officer, she’s learned it’s much more ‘sinister’.

Taking to Facebook, she said: “Well I woke up to this left on our doorstep this morning.

“Apparently this is a known trick of burglars.

“If not cleaned up in a couple of days they know you are not home and in they go.

“Thankfully I’m home and cleaned this up, whoever it was done this about 1am this morning.”

She added: “Look out for your neighbours especially those who are on holiday.”

In an interview with Manchester Evening News, Celino-Straker warned that it’s ‘not just beans’ being used. She said that people are finding other unusual spillages outside their homes too.

“They use anything that you would have to clean up and that is not going to wash away with a bit of rain,” she explained.

Since learning of the burglary trick, the mum has claimed that she’s been keeping a lookout for her elderly neighbours. Plus, she’s double-checking that her doors and windows are locked.

Revealing why she felt like she had to speak out about it, Celino-Straker said: “I posted about it because I wanted to warn people and get them to look out for each other.

“If it helps one person it was worth it.”
