Marianne is a French horror series that came out in 2019.
It follows horror writer Emma who returns to her hometown only to find out that an evil spirit which haunted her dreams 15 years ago is now causing problems for those in the real world.
The drama has been extremely popular among critics and viewers – with it receiving a 94 per cent score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Despite its rave reviews, Netflix cancelled the series after only one season.
Sadly, creator Sam Bodin claims there weren’t enough viewers for it to justify a second series.
In an interview with Bloody Disgusting, he admits that originally, there had been plans for future instalments.
Bodin says: “At the time, I really wanted to do three seasons.
“The story in my head takes three seasons, three acts for me. Three big chapters.”
Although Marianne came out four years ago, the show has been revitalised by Netflix viewers who have only just stumbled across it.
Many people have taken to social media and shared their praise for the programme.
One viewer pens: “Just finished the first episode of Netflix’s Marianne and I am scared for my life. Good start!”
Another person says: “Just finished watching Marianne on Netflix and it’s the scariest thing I’ve ever watched in my whole f***ing life.”
“Only watched episode one last night before bed and it’s f***ed up haha,” adds a third.
Someone else comments: “Horror fans: I’m definitely late… but, I just watched Marianne on Netflix and it was GOOD!
“Some parts were a little dorky but the series provided some good scary moments. It’s worth checking out the first few eps to see if you like it.”
“Marianne on Netflix is wild,” insists another viewer.
If you are looking for something else to watch on Netflix that will make you ‘sick to your stomach’, The Fall is a movie on Netflix that has viewers lauding how tense it is.
