Parents are debating whether babies should be allowed to have ear piercings.

Several mums have taken to TikTok and uploaded videos of their infants getting their ears pierced.

They believe babies and toddlers should be allowed to have their ears pierced as it’s ‘cute’ and insist they won’t remember the pain as they’re so young.

Arguing for it to be allowed, one TikToker claimed: “It’s not abuse. I got my ears pierced before I was even a year old and I’m glad I don’t remember.”

Another added: “Don’t forget, it can be for cultural reasons.”

However, many people have argued that it’s ‘cruel’ and shouldn’t be something someone should undergo when they’re so little.

In one video, a mum showed herself holding onto her baby girl as she had her ears pierced.

After viewing the clip, one viewer said: “Shouldn’t be allowed. Completely unnecessary. Wasn’t her choice.”

Agreeing, a second commented: “Please wait until your child is old enough to decide when they want their ears pierced.

“Why make the most beautiful baby cry?” a third questioned. “She didn’t need earrings to make her pretty. Could have waited. Cruel.”

According to Healthline, many doctors in the US recommend that parents wait until their baby has received both of their tetanus shots which take place before they’re four months old.

It’s also advised that the piercer use a needle instead of a handgun as this decreases the risk of infection.
