Salt Bae Announces He Is Leaving London Restaurant After Six Weeks

Salt Bae, whose real name is Nusret Gökçe, announced he is leaving his restaurant, Nusr-Et, in London, just six weeks after opening it.

The famous chef, who recently came under fire for posting a job advert offering to pay staff an hourly rate which is the same price as a side of mashed potato, announced the news in an Instagram post.

Taking to his story, the 38-year-old told followers Sunday ‘would be his last day’ at the Knightsbridge joint.

He wrote: “Sunday is my last day in lovely London. I want to see you beautiful people before I go.

Gökçe then revealed he will go to Suadi Arabia to open another restaurant, saying: “I will go to Riyadh to open my 28th restaurant.”

He opened the steakhouse on September 23, marking the occasion with an Instagram post captioned: “Opened at the heart of the world 23.09.2021.”

The eatery has been subject to its fair share of controversy since opening its doors.

Last month, the venue was blasted over its ‘unethical’ service charge on a £37,000 bill that was posted on Twitter.

It showed that the diners had opted for the infamous Golden Tomahawk steak, which comes with a price tag of £850, 16 portions of Nusret Baklava, four portions of Golden Baklava, and three sides of £10 fries.

Splashing out on booze, the group spent almost £30,000. They ordered a 1996 bottle of Petrus red wine, which cost an eye-watering £9,100, before ordering more of the same wine but from the year 2003 instead, which totalled £19,900.

The internet sensation was also reportedly ordered to pay $230,000 to four ex-employees who accused him of ‘conning them’ out of tips.

Staff who sued him allegedly worked at his Manhattan restaurant, in 2019, and claim he sacked them when they complained about how the gratuity was being distributed.
