Oscar nominee Tems has broken her silence on her outfit after she was branded ‘rude’ for blocking the view of other attendees.

Tems, whose real name is Temilade Openiyi, is a singer-songwriter who is known for songs such as ‘Free Mind’ and ‘Damages’.

She attended the red carpet event after being nominated in the Best Original song category for co-writing Rihanna’s song ‘Lift Me Up’ – which featured in the Marvel film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Tems, 27, wore a white gown and headpiece that went around her shoulders and head for the ceremony.

It was designed by LA-based designer Lever Couture, who has previously made outfits for Cardi B.

And while many people took to social media and gushed over Tems appearance at the Oscars, she also faced a backlash over the outfit.

Many have said that the headpiece – which wasn’t removable – would have been a distraction for those behind her at the ceremony.

At the time, one person said: “Imagine waiting your whole life to be at the Oscars and you end up sitting behind a stratus cloud.”

While a second viewer penned: “The dress was gorgeous on the red carpet, but this is beyond rude once seated.

“Her stylist should have had another dress for her to change into before she was seated. Celebrities do that all the time at events.”

A third suggested: “She looks stunning but perhaps they could have made the top bit detachable.”

“Nice red carpet dress, but totally should’ve changed in between for the respect of others,” somebody else said.

Following the criticism, Tems has taken to Instagram and seemingly referenced the backlash.

Alongside photos of her in the gown, the ‘Try Me’ singer says: “Uh Ohh!”

While another is captioned: “Oops!”

Tems’ fans are now taking to the comments and insisting that she shouldn’t have to apologise for her red-carpet look.

One fan comments: “Tems baby you looked stunning during the Oscars. Your dress was so beautiful. You don’t owe anyone an apology for stealing the show.”

A second adds: “Tems is a very talented and beautiful singer and songwriter. Her Oscars ensemble was stunning… a triumph of fashion.”

Although the dress is going viral, Tems is the not first celebrity to wear an outfit that becomes a huge talking point.

Famously, Lady Gaga wore an outfit made of ‘meat’ at the 2010 MTV Music Video Awards.

While at the 1986 Oscars, Cher wore a headpiece that would certainly rival Tems’.
