Brendan Fraser has opened up about the reason he was ‘blacklisted’ from Hollywood.
Speaking to GQ in 2018, The Mummy star opened up about being a victim of s**ual abuse in 2003.
Fraser claimed he was groped by the former president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) Phillip Berk, which the actor described as leaving his career ‘withered on a vine’.

In the interview, the actor opened up about the incident by stating: “His left-hand reaches around, grabs my ass cheek, and one of his fingers touches me in the taint. And he starts moving it around. I felt ill.
“I felt like a little kid. I felt like there was a ball in my throat. I thought I was going to cry… In my mind, at least, something had been taken away from me.”
Following this alleged incident, Fraser believes he was ‘blacklisted’ by Hollywood since he was rarely invited back to the Golden Globes after 2003.
Berk is still a member of the HFPA and in his memoir, he recalled the incident as a ‘joke’ and even described the George Of The Jungle star’s career downfall as ‘no fault of ours’.
The 2018 interview was the first time the actor spoke up about what allegedly happened and he believed it was the right time because of the Times Up movement.

Fraser added: “Am I still frightened? Absolutely. Do I feel like I need to say something? Absolutely. Have I wanted to many, many times? Absolutely. Have I stopped myself? Absolutely.
“And maybe I am overreacting in terms of what the instance was. I just know what my truth is. And it’s what I just spoke to you.”
The admiration for the actor has grown since speaking out and he is currently in the midst of a career renaissance, with a starring role in Darren Aronofsky’s upcoming film The Whale, which sees Fraser play a 600lb man who is looking to reconcile with his daughter.
The first image was revealed recently and fans are already calling for him to get an Oscar nomination for the part.
He also has upcoming roles in Martin Scorsese’s new film Killers Of The Flower Moon, which will see him star across from Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert DeNiro.
Fraser is also set to play the villain in the future DC movie Batgirl.
