Russian influencers are facing a backlash over cutting up their Chanel handbags for a ‘stupid’ reason.

Model Victoria Bonya took to Instagram on April 6 and showed herself taking a pair of industrial scissors to the designer item, as a form of protest against her country being barred from buying the brand’s goods.

She captioned the post: “Never seen any brand acting so disrespectful towards their clients as @chanelofficial #byebyeCHANEL.”

In response, one follower commented: “Wow, people [are] crying over their dead children and you are crying because of handbags?!?! This is ultimate stupidity and you are showing it to the world proudly.”

Another added: “Thank you for making your stance so clear on the war matters. That’s a HARD unfollow. SHAME ON YOU!!!”

TV host and actor Marina Ermoshkina also took to the social media platform on April 6 and recorded herself taking a set of garden shears to her Chanel handbag.

In her caption, she penned: “Not a single bag, not a single thing is worth my love for my Motherland.

“It’s not worth my respect for myself. I am against Russophobia, I am against a brand that supports Russophobia.”

She continued: “Chanel is just an accessory.

“An accessory that at some point decided to humiliate people, my compatriots, decided to discriminate against people on the basis of nationality, which I will not tolerate. After all, the main thing is principles, and not what is in your hands, but what is inside you.”

After seeing Ermoshkina’s post, one said: “Oh my God, [is a] Chanel handbag more important than human life?!”

“Haha, sponsored by Putin?” a second joked.

A Chanel representative reportedly told the news outlet Insider that the French brand has made sure to comply with ‘all laws’ when it comes to all areas, including trade sanctions.
