Meghan Markle has been slammed by a royal author for crying at the Queen’s funeral, however, many have leapt to her defence.

Tom Bower, the author behind ‘Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the war between Windsors’, appeared on GB News to question the legitimacy of the Duchess of Sussex’s emotions.

When asked by host Dan Wootton if Markle was upset, he responded: “Was she emotional about it, Dan?”

Bower continued: “I mean, did she [shed] a tear or was it an act of a Hollywood actress thinking I better do a gesture to suggest a tear?

“The only person that Meghan, I think at the moment, is crying for is herself, certainly not for the Queen.

“After all, she had been pretty rude about her in the Oprah Winfrey interview.”

The author continued his attack on the Duchess, by claiming the Queen was happy that Markle was not at Prince Phillip’s funeral.

However, a lot of people on social media have taken issue with Bower’s comments and have come to her defence.

Replying to the video on Twitter, one person posted: This is truly awful; she did absolutely nothing wrong today. She paid her respects, she was an innocent bystander and yet you still continue to attack her.”

“This is just disgusting. This isn’t journalism. It’s targeted hate,” claimed someone else.

A third person commented: “Why are you talking about Meghan, why are you not analysing the parade of the funeral, taking into account all the nods to Scotland, Wales and Ireland, asking the question of how the royal family go forward, and what will be their role in the future.”

“Stop it! Stop it now. You are utterly and completely without shame. Absolutely disgraceful bullying, speculation and outright untruths,” replied another individual.

A fifth person shared: “This is all conjecture and imagination, not fact. It’s very, very nasty. I think Dan and GB News need to spend some time in quiet reflection on whether this is acceptable for a news channel on any day, never mind on the day of the funeral.”

Despite Bower’s harsh criticism of Markle, he did at least later say some nicer things about her.

He said: “I thought Meghan today behaved properly, she didn’t try to attract attention.

“But the suggestion she was wiping away a tear – I think it was just a scratch.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were in the UK at the time of Queen Elizabeth’s death for the WellChild Awards, however, they cancelled their appearance so Prince Harry could rush to Balmoral to be with his family.

They stayed in the country for Her Majesty’s funeral and while they have reportedly said that they will be going back to America, no date has been confirmed.
