Musk, 51, has had an eventful year, from buying Twitter for $44 billion to losing his spot as the world’s richest man.

His takeover of the social media giant has also been scrutinised, as staff have reportedly been asked to commit to being ‘hardcore’, while rapper Kanye West has also been suspended from the platform.

Although Musk may think positively about the changes he’s made to Twitter, judging by the reception he received at Dave Chapelle’s show, not everyone agrees.

Chapelle, 49, was performing at the Chase Center in San Francisco, as part of his tour with Chris Rock, on December 11, 2022, when he told the audience to ‘make some noise for the richest man in the world’.

Musk then walked across the stage with his arms raised up in the air, to which he was probably expecting to be greeted with a round of applause.

Despite initially receiving some cheers, this quickly turned into boos and jeers that only got louder and louder.

Chapelle attempted to make light of the situation, by jokingly commenting: “It sounds like some of those people you fired are in the audience.”

However, this fell on deaf ears and the boos continued, with some in the audience alleging he was booed for around 10 minutes

Even though phones are not allowed by those in attendance, footage of Musk appearing on the stage has gone viral across social media, prompting the SpaceX founder to issue a response on Twitter.

Musk wrote in a now-deleted tweet (via CNBC): “Technically, it was 90 per cent cheers & 10 per cent boos (except during quiet periods), but, still, that’s a lot of boos, which is a first for me in real life (frequent on Twitter).

“It’s almost as if I’ve offended SF’s (San Francisco) unhinged leftists… but nahhh.”

People have since been reacting to the incident on social media, with one account posting ‘watch a man die inside’ accompanied by the footage of Musk on stage with Chapelle

Another user wrote: “Nothing funnier than Elon Musk getting booed for several minutes while he stands in silence on stage next to Dave Chappelle.”

“Hearing Elon Musk getting booed has re-energised my soul,” added someone else.

However, some felt sorry for Musk, as he appeared to look overwhelmed by the negative reception.

One person commented: “I actually felt bad for him. I’m by no means an Elon fanboy, more of a centrist.

“I wanted to shake him: for the love of god man, say something and pretend it’s a tweet!!”

Another user added: “I mean he is awkward. Lol, I don’t know what Dave was thinking. I love Dave’s work. But yeah kind of put Elon in an awkward situation.”
