The TV personality, 63, is a well-known record executive and creator of the hugely successful X Factor and Got Talent franchises.

Cowell is currently holding auditions for Britain’s Got Talent’s sixteenth season, however, one act left audience members ‘screaming’.

The head judge was ‘set on fire’ by a performer during the show’s London auditions, according to The Mirror.

The news outlet reports that Cowell was taken on stage by a masked magician who instructed him to sit on a chair.

The contestant then placed a hood over his head, which was then doused in lighter fluid.

Shockingly, Cowell then had his head locked in a box, which was opened for the audience to see inside.

To finish the act, the magician dropped a flame into the box and the judge’s head apparently went up in flames.

An onlooker tells The Mirror that people ‘screamed’ and Cowell looked ‘a bit shell-shocked’ afterwards.

Cowell reportedly commented: “I could feel liquid being poured on me but I had no idea it was lighter fluid!”

His fellow judge, Alesha Dixon, 44, told the father-of-one he was ‘a very brave man’ to take part in such a terrifying act.

Although Britain’s Got Talent is yet to air, it sounds like it’s going to be one of its most intense seasons yet.

Comedian David Walliams, 51, has been replaced by ex-Strictly Come Dancing judge Bruno Tonioli, 67.

And the professional dancer is already causing a stir.

Tonioli reportedly threw the show into chaos by pressing his Golden Buzzer twice before admitting he’s never watched Britain’s Got Talent.

The Golden Buzzer automatically sends auditionees through to the lives finals after being pressed – and each judge can only use it once.

Recalling the incident, a source tells The Sun: ‘It was madness.

“The buzzer worked but there was no glitter in the cannon above the stage as it had already been used up.”

The witness says a producer raced over to try to tell the judge he couldn’t press the buzzer twice.

This was followed by discussions with the top execs and Simon Cowell – who reportedly had his head in his hands.

The source also claims that Tonioli said he hadn’t watched the programme before and didn’t realise he had made a mistake.
